Few pastries look as impressive as a Danish, yet making them at home does not have to involve complicated dough or hours of preparation.
Using ready-made puff pastry makes these easy fruit Danish pastries simple enough for a relaxed morning bake. Creamy filling, juicy fruit, and crisp golden pastry come together in a recipe that is easy to prepare and satisfying to serve warm. Peaches, strawberries, and blueberries all work beautifully, so you can use whichever fruit looks freshest.
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
100 g cream cheese, softened
30 g granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 medium egg, beaten
1 cup fresh fruit, such as sliced peaches, strawberries, or blueberries
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon apricot jam, optional
1 tablespoon water, for the optional glaze
Preparation and Cooking Time
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 18–22 minutes
Total time: About 40 minutes
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2. Place the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into four equal rectangles or squares.
3. Transfer the pastry pieces to the prepared baking tray, leaving some space between them.
4. In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and about half of the beaten egg. Mix until smooth and creamy.
5. Spread a small amount of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry piece. Leave a border around the edges so the pastry can puff properly during baking.
6. Arrange your chosen fruit over the cream cheese filling. Slice peaches or strawberries thinly, while blueberries can be added whole.
7. Lightly dust the fruit with the flour. This helps absorb some of the fruit's moisture while the pastries bake.
8. Brush the remaining beaten egg around the exposed pastry edges, avoiding the cream cheese and fruit filling.
9. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
10. If using the optional glaze, warm the apricot jam with the water in a small saucepan over low heat until smooth. Brush a thin layer over the warm fruit after the pastries come out of the oven.
11. Let the Danish pastries cool on the tray for several minutes before serving.
Choose Your Favorite Fruit
The best part of a fruit Danish is how easily you can change the topping. Peaches give the pastry a soft, juicy sweetness and look beautiful when arranged in thin slices. Strawberries add a bright color and familiar fruity flavor, while blueberries create small bursts of sweetness throughout the creamy filling.
For the best results, choose fruit that is fresh and not overly watery. If using peaches or strawberries, slice them thinly so they cook evenly. Blueberries can be added whole. Frozen fruit can also work, but it should be thawed and drained well first to avoid adding too much moisture to the pastry.
How to Get Crisp Pastry
The biggest advantage of puff pastry is its ability to become light and flaky in a hot oven. Keeping the pastry cold before baking helps maintain its layers. If it becomes very soft while being prepared, place the tray in the refrigerator for a few minutes before putting it into the oven.
Avoid adding too much cream cheese filling or fruit. A heavy topping can make the center softer and may prevent the pastry underneath from becoming as crisp as the outer edges. Give each Danish enough space on the baking tray so the hot air can circulate around the pieces.
Simple Serving Ideas
These fruit Danish pastries are best served slightly warm or at room temperature. They make an easy breakfast, afternoon treat, or simple dessert when you want something homemade without a lengthy baking project.
A light dusting of powdered sugar adds a classic finishing touch. You can also serve the pastries with extra fresh berries or fruit on the side. For a more polished presentation, arrange the Danish on a serving plate with the colorful fruit facing upward.
This simple fruit Danish recipe shows how a few straightforward ingredients can create something that looks special without requiring advanced baking skills. Ready-made puff pastry saves time, while cream cheese and fresh fruit provide a pleasant combination of creamy, fruity, and crisp textures.
Whether you choose peach, strawberry, blueberry, or a mixture, it is an easy pastry to make whenever a warm homemade treat is on the menu.
